A little explaining

Alright, since I just sent out the mass e-mail about the site to all my family and friends I supose that I had better explain some things. Firstly, most everyone knows, I am pretty certain, that I have become fairly involved with poker over the last 2-3 years. Some of you might not know that, as of right now, I do plan on trying to make my living as a professional poker player after I graduate college in May. I have thought about this decision for a countless number of hours and have come to my decision for three major reasons:

1. I love playing poker. I love the psychological, analytical, and sometimes even physical challenges that the game presents.

2. I have studied, prayed, and talked to alot of people about the ethical and moral issues that surround this type of a career choice. After all my thoughts I have come to the conclusion that I can lead a God-pleasing life as a professional poker player. Many people have argued against my stance and I respect their opinions, I just don't share their same thoughts. It's a personal choice that I hope everyone can accept.

3. There is really no better career opportunity for me right now. When looking at this choice from a financial perspective it is really a no brainer. The expected profits and return are just to large to ignore. Poker is booming right now and the opportunities have never been greater. Also this career will allow me to meet and become connected with many very successful people who could help me get involved in the business side of the game after I am done as a professional player.

Since coming to this decision my life has never been more uncertain. I have no idea where I will be 5 years from now and I have to accept the posibilty of anything. I know that through my faith I have nothing to worry about because everything will happen for a reason, good or bad.

Alright, back to the basics of the site. For those of you who don't know much about the game of poker there will be alot of terminology thrown around that will seem fairly confusing. I'll add a link to a VERY basic overview of how Texas Hold'em is played. Without at least a basic knowledge of the game it will be fairly futile to read some of the posts.

Okay, hopefully you will enjoy the posts and if you have any comments feel free to post them, or if you want to get ahold of me, you probably have my e-mail address and if not then it's lucidclairvoyance@hotmail.com

Thanks for checking out the site

#1 - Nice career choice. Being your own boss is always a good decision.

#2 - If you are good enough to make a career out of it then leave the hating and doubting to all the haters and doubters. I say go for it!!

#3 - I am not sure what argument people have made stating that you can't be a poker player and still lead a God-pleasing life. I mean, it's not like you're a drug dealer or sell body parts on the black market. Poker is a game played under a sub-set of rules against other humans where winning and losing is clearly defined. It's not like you're sitting in the Tropicana playing black jack, down $120,000 to the house with your last grand riding on the next hand. Yes, gambling is addictive. Yes, gambling can tear families apart. But, as long as you keep ties with those who love you and don't spend your winnings on hookers and coke, then all you've done is be successful at something that you love while making a calculated financial risk. Why would God smite you for doing that???

#4 - I've read your other posts and follow the poker lingo (button is dealer, BB is big blind, etc.) but at the risk of sounding like an idiot, what are trip 12's??

#5 - You either need to e-mail your blog to me for editing or find a way to use spellcheck (when you hit the big time, I'll be your editor for just a small fee and your accountant for a huge fee).

Looking forward to more updates.

I very much enjoyed reading about your tournament experiences. The fact that you can remember the hands in such detail means you should be able to do well as a poker player. Great job on web site. Spell check would catch most of the type-oos.

Whats up Dave... Just dropping by to say good luck at becoming a professional poker player when you graduate. I graduated last December and have been grinding it out since then in $50 sngs and 5/10 short-handed. I guess you could say I'm a professional since it's my only job and I pay the bills with it, although its relatively low stakes. You and Alex have a huge advantage here too... your bankrolls. Both of you have been very successful lately at some of the higher limit games online and consistently building your rolls in preparation for after you graduate. You will have plenty of money to back you up and make you more comfortable at higher limits. There's no doubt in my mind that both of you have what it takes to succeed long-term. I just wish I had to roll to play 15/30 and 20/40, lol. Keep crushing the game and tell Alex the same. Maybe we'll sit next to each other in another WPT event... peace

David- There will come a time in all of our lives that we will make decissions that will impact our lives and the lives of those around us.

I would like you to know that I am extremly proud of your decissions, so far, in life. Do not be too anxious about where you will be in 5 years- even if you had a plan- no one ever truly knows where life will lead.

Enjoy this time in your life- "grown-up" (9-5) jobs come soon enough. Make the most of this opportunity. Travel- Enjoy- and Meet as many new people/ firends as possible. You are NEVER to young to NETWORK.
